Another quick post with a video of Jake being coerced into giving his dad a kiss when all he really wants is a boob.

Don’t get used to the frequency, but I had to write something else to show the pictures of our little guy smiling for the first time without any help from flatulation.

And one of his serious face:

Yaya and Grandpa visited today because Yaya had a Bruce Springsteen concert to go to and Yaya mentioned that I haven’t updated this thing in a while, so here’s a big update.

First is a video of the little guy on Halloween:

Here are a few pictures from today:

Other than that things are going well here. Using our very scientific tandem weighing method we’ve determined that he’s at about 9.2lbs, so he’s growing well. He started smiling at us yesterday which is completely awesome.

Jake is now 10 days old and he’s doing very well, as is his mother. We’re still getting sleep at night and have just about settled into a somewhat normal routine.

I’ll be adding some new pictures soon but I have to share this video of the little guy playing on his new playmat. He’s not quite big enough to reach the fun hanging things, but he seems to have fun on it. His mama is talking to Yaya (Grandma Fox).

Jake has also started to gain weight and is (as of Tuesday morning) 4.5oz above his birth weight. He’s also starting to hold his head up himself so he’s getting as much tummy time as he’ll put up with. I’m already envisioning the frustration of a kid-proof house. The days of plugging things into walls willy-nilly without fear of damaging finger nails or small prying implements is over!

Everything is great in the Fox family household. Lindsey and I have been the thankful recipients of 2 nights of 7+ hours of sleep spliced into regular feedings. Jake’s Aunt Jill had someone read his star chart and told us he “has a lot of planets in Sagittarius” which apparently means he’s even tempered and generally happy about things. So far that’s exactly what he is!

We gave him his first sponge bath yesterday and recorded the whole thing for posterity and to share with our distant relatives. He just kills me when he looks at me with those big, droopy eyes!

Lindsey, Jake, and I arrived home yesterday with a clean bill of health and ready to start our new lives. Jake has settled into a 2-3 hour sleep-eat cycle and our first night home gave us each 7+ hours of sleep!

Jake arrived at 9:36pm on Sunday, October 14th weighing 6lbs 13.6oz. So far he’s been low stress and maximum precious. His mom and I can’t get over him.

I’ve uploaded all of the pictures we got to a few albums on the Family Pics page at the top, but I have to put a few in this post that deserve some greater discussion or attention.

First, let’s take a look at the best picture of the little guy that we have taken thus far.

Next, let’s look at the “bed” they provide for the Dad. It served its purpose and I can only guess that they get away with it because the last thing anyone wants to hear in a labor room is the Dad complaining about anything!

And lastly, how about a pic of the new family? I’m sure we’ll have more to say over the next few weeks. I’m going to get back to my son!

P.S. The song isn’t entirely appropriate to the situation, but it was the song playing on the ipod boombox when little Jake was born. He is, in fact, my sunshine.

Well the day has arrived. I’m writing this entry from Lindsey’s blackberry outside of the hospital. It looks like we’ll be welcoming the bambino here in short order! More updates when I can get to a regular size keyboard!

I finished the bookshelf over the weekend and wanted to put up a picture of it to round out my previous post. The room is finished and ready to not be used for 6 months while he sleeps in our room. Sweet.

Lindsey wanted me to take a picture of her working at the new desk I built for her to show everyone the desk and her new modified bed rest fashion. She’s working from home comfortably.

Well, we’re in the home stretch now. Lindsey is currently at 35 weeks so we’ll be seeing the little guy soon enough. I think a lot of the excitement has dulled into patient anticipation as we play the waiting game, but we’re ready.

We got a few things for his trip home, his first few meals, and his sleepy-time.

The sleep sack thing was a recommendation from a book I got from my sister/brother-in-law. The little guy can’t kick his covers off if they’re attached to his shirt! Take that, baby!

His nursery is almost done. I’m putting the last few coats of paint on a bookshelf I built for him and then that room will be ready go.

Here are a few pictures of the finished parts of the room. The cool pictures on the wall are from an old children’s book. Lindsey liked the super-animated faces of the animals so she cut them out and mounted them in the frames. The barnyard scene above the changing table is something I had in my room when I was a little kid.

After 4+ years of moving the old seats from my Porsche around with us I finally realized my original intentions. The seats were scratched, ripped, and dirty but still in good functional condition. I always wanted to mount them onto a wooden base and use them as chairs somewhere in the house. Lindsey was doubtful and until I convinced her to sit in them and feel how comfortable they were she thought the best place to store them was anywhere but our house. We have this super cool media room now and we were lacking extra seating with only two theater recliners in the room, so I saw an opportunity. Now our lucky guests get to relax (and recline!) in pure 80s German sports car comfort in the confines of our suburban home. Rejoice!

The bases are just glued 1″x6″ pine board custom fit around the bottom of the chair. They’re joined with plain dado cuts around a piece of MDF from the top of an old office max desk. The MDF board was bolted to the bottom of the chair rails. I bought some really nice custom seat covers to cover up all the wear and tear from 20+ years of use. I couldn’t keep the forward/backward adjustments for safety reasons, but the recline lever still works.

I already have plans to build a removable mount for the steering wheel and pedals I use to play racing games!
