I’ve taken the time to build some simple shelves for the media room to hold all of our DVDs. The style is called a “flying nun” shelf, for obvious reasons. They’re pretty simple and the only slight complication is a double rabbet joint for the two end pieces.

They look pretty good and they accomplish our main goal of getting our DVDs up and out of (little) prying hands. I still have a bunch of projects to finish before the baby shower so I’ll have my hands full this weekend. Next up is making my old Porsche seats into guest media seats using only fitted seat covers, some pine boards, and a piece of plywood. Wish me luck!

Lindsey had a follow up sonogram last week to make sure all was well and during the procedure the technician mentioned that she was training on the 3D ultrasound equipment. The 3D stuff is entirely for impatient parents who can’t wait 9 measly months. That being said, when she offered to do the 3D picture for free (instead of the non-covered $150!) we couldn’t resist. The machine works by taking a series of different 2D ultrasound cross-sections and then stacking and blending them into a 3D image, much the same way a 3D image of a brain can be constructed from an MRI.

So that’s all the technical mumbo-jumbo, just look at this thing:

It looks creepy, and watching it on the monitors is worse. I guess it was kinda cool to see, but it is still a bit unnerving. Oh, also his umbilical cord is casting a shadow so he looks like Magnum P.I. That part was cool.

So I’ve finally succumbed to the ways of the web 2.0 and started a little blog to track my life. Until Jake was conceived I never gave much of a thought to keeping track of the day to day, but now I think it would be a nice thing for him to see when he gets older. My life is changing and so are my hangups. I welcome my new blog overlords.

Not much to post this time around as I’m just getting things settled here. Lindsey and I are playing with different themes and color schemes as well as different additions to the blog. I’ve added a flash music player to the site which I hope to use to share whatever music I’m listening to at the time. Be warned that it might not all be sugary sweet so click with an open mind.

As for Jake, we’ve got about 10 weeks now before he comes barreling into our lives and I couldn’t be more excited. My weekends are filled with projects and preparation work. He also kicks the crap out of my head every night when I say goodnight to him so we need to have a little chat. That lawn ain’t gonna cut itself.
