FoxNotes is a local-first note-taking application designed to give the user direct control over their files, information, and synchronization methods. This Privacy Policy explains what data FoxNotes collects, how notes are stored, how optional synchronization works, and what control the user retains over their information.

  • FoxNotes does not collect personal information from the user.
  • FoxNotes does not require creating an account, registering on a website, or logging into services operated by the developer.
  • FoxNotes does not use analytics, tracking, advertising, telemetry, or user profiling systems.
  • FoxNotes does not transmit information to the developer. This includes, but is not limited to, notes, files, filenames, local paths, diagnostic logs, usage metrics, device identifiers, synchronization information, passwords, keys, hashes, salts, nonces, or encrypted data.

2. Data That FoxNotes Collects

FoxNotes does not collect personal information.

The application does not collect, store, or transmit to the developer data such as:

  • User’s name.
  • Email address.
  • IP address.
  • Device identifiers.
  • Location.
  • Content of the notes.
  • Filenames.
  • Folder paths.
  • Usage history.
  • Diagnostic information.
  • Error logs.
  • Performance metrics.
  • Synchronization data.
  • Passwords or cryptographic keys.

FoxNotes does not maintain its own servers to receive, process, or store user data.

3. Registration and Accounts

FoxNotes does not require any registration on any website belonging to the developer.

The user can use FoxNotes without creating a FoxNotes account, without logging into any service provided by the developer, and without delivering personal information to the developer.

If the user decides to use an external synchronization provider, such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or a WebDAV server, authentication occurs directly between the user and that external provider. FoxNotes does not receive the user’s password for those services, and the developer has no access to those accounts.

4. Local Storage of Notes

Notes are stored exclusively in the local storage chosen or authorized by the user on their device.

FoxNotes uses local files to represent the user’s content. Under normal conditions, notes and associated resources are stored in formats directly accessible to the user, such as TXT files and standard images.

This means that the user retains direct control over their files without relying on a proprietary converter, a remote database, or a service operated by the developer.

The exception is encrypted containers, where the data requires a specific structure to be encrypted and decrypted correctly. This structure exists solely out of technical necessity for the cryptographic system.

5. Optional Synchronization

Synchronization in FoxNotes is completely optional.

The user can use FoxNotes without activating any synchronization system.

If the user decides to activate synchronization, files are sent only to the synchronization provider chosen by the user. This may include, for example:

  • Google Drive.
  • Dropbox.
  • A WebDAV server selected by the user.
  • Other compatible providers that may be added in the future.

None of the synchronized content is sent to the developer of FoxNotes.

The developer does not act as a synchronization intermediary, does not receive copies of the files, does not process the notes, and does not keep logs of the user’s synchronization processes.

The data relationship in an optional synchronization occurs between:

The user’s device → The synchronization provider chosen by the user

And not between the user and the developer of FoxNotes.

When FoxNotes uses Google Drive, the application requests only the permission necessary to create, read, modify, and delete files used by FoxNotes. FoxNotes does not request full access to all files stored in the user’s Google Drive.

6. Use of External Providers

When the user utilizes an external provider, such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or WebDAV, the use of that provider is subject to their own privacy policies, terms of service, and security mechanisms.

FoxNotes only uses those services when the user voluntarily configures and authorizes them.

The developer of FoxNotes does not control the privacy, security, availability, or data retention practices of external providers.

The user must review the policies of the external provider they choose to use.

7. Access to Google Drive, Dropbox, or WebDAV

When FoxNotes uses Google Drive, Dropbox, or WebDAV, access is used exclusively to allow the user to synchronize their own note files between their devices or chosen storage locations.

FoxNotes does not use access to those services to collect information for the developer.

FoxNotes does not send access tokens, credentials, filenames, file content, or user account information to the developer.

Any credentials or tokens required to maintain a synchronization session are stored locally on the user’s device, according to the mechanism provided by the platform and the libraries used by the corresponding provider.

8. Data Encryption

FoxNotes may allow the encryption of notes or note containers.

Encryption is performed on the user’s device.

Passwords, keys, hashes, salts, nonces, cryptographic metadata, and encrypted data are never sent to the developer.

The developer of FoxNotes has no access to the user’s passwords, cannot recover encrypted notes, cannot decrypt encrypted content, and possesses no human, computational, automated, or artificial intelligence-based mechanism to obtain such data.

If the user loses or forgets the password required to decrypt an encrypted note or container, the developer will not be able to recover it.

The user is responsible for safely preserving their passwords and backups.

9. Logs, Diagnostics, and Telemetry

  • FoxNotes does not transmit diagnostic logs to the developer.
  • FoxNotes does not use remote telemetry.
  • FoxNotes does not use behavioral analysis systems.
  • FoxNotes does not use tracking identifiers.
  • FoxNotes does not incorporate advertising or advertising technologies.

If the user decides to manually share an error message, screenshot, diagnostic file, or description of a problem with the developer, that action will be entirely voluntary and outside of any automatic transmission from the application.

10. User Control Over Their Files

The user retains full and absolute control over their files.

The user can create, modify, move, copy, synchronize, back up, or delete their files using FoxNotes or external operating system tools.

Unencrypted notes are stored in user-readable formats, such as TXT and standard images, without requiring a special converter to access the basic content.

Encrypted files require the application or a compatible implementation of the encryption format to be decrypted, due to the inherent nature of encryption.

11. Data Deletion

Because FoxNotes does not store user data on the developer’s servers, the developer has no personal data to delete from their systems.

The user can delete their data directly from:

  • The FoxNotes application.
  • The local file system.
  • The external synchronization provider they have chosen, such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or WebDAV.

If files were synchronized with an external provider, permanent deletion may also depend on that provider’s trash, version history, retention, or recovery options.

12. Security

FoxNotes is designed to minimize data exposure by keeping content under local user control and avoiding the transmission of information to the developer.

However, no software can guarantee absolute security against all possible risks.

The user is responsible for protecting their device, their operating system account, their external provider accounts, their passwords, their backups, and their synchronized files.

It is recommended to use strong passwords, keep the system updated, and adequately protect the external accounts used for synchronization.

13. Minors

FoxNotes is not designed to collect information from minors and does not collect personal information from any user.

Since FoxNotes does not require registration or transmit information to the developer, the developer does not receive personal data from minors through the normal use of the application.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated occasionally to reflect changes in FoxNotes, its features, or applicable legal requirements.

When material changes are made, the “Last updated” date indicated at the beginning of this document will be updated.

Continued use of FoxNotes after an update implies acceptance of the updated version of this Privacy Policy.
